The new cover for the book "Para meu eterno talvez" (For My Eternal Maybe) is an illustration created to continue the story of the book.
CONCEPT
"For My Eternal Maybe" is a book centered on the story of Suzana and Ofélia: while Suzana doesn't believe in astrology, Ofélia does. The two meet through letters their great-grandmothers exchanged when they were young and in love, and it is from this legacy that they also begin to fall in love.
The cover was directly inspired by the narrative. The author wanted a solution that could unfold in future volumes, so I opted for a vector illustration, with characters intentionally unidentifiable and without giving away spoilers or defining them by skin tone. Bringing together the central elements of the story, I chose to highlight what most appeals to me: the idea of destiny. Just as the great-grandmothers were connected, Suzana and Ofélia are also connected. To translate this thread of destiny, I used the stars, which surround the characters' hands.
Since the letters are the heart of the story, I depicted the two of them exchanging letters, their destinies intertwined. The letter reads "for Helena," the name of one of the great-grandmothers, a direct reference to the origin of this story.
The process began with research into references, done together with the author, to align what we were looking for. For the illustration, I first produced a photo with the proportions and ideas I had in mind and, from there, I built the line work in my own style. Along the way, I opted for a palette leaning towards purple, evoking the idea of galaxies, with contrasting colors to create emphasis on the cover.
With the illustration finalized, I took it to Photoshop and developed the book's title. I wanted it to appear "broken," because the name carries that feeling: the great-grandmothers' story was interrupted, while Suzana and Ofélia's is just beginning. From there, I explored hierarchies and layers to integrate the title into the illustration.
